Essential Duties

  • In collaboration with faculty and/or other subject matter experts, leads the design and development of engaging, interactive and instructionally sound learning materials, including assessments, in alignment with learning objectives and goals
  • Utilizes and recommends effective and creative uses of technology to enhance instruction including content authoring tools, document creation applications, presentation tools and other technology resources to develop custom products
  • In collaboration with faculty and/or other subject matter experts: assists in writing learning objectives in alignment with related course, program, and professional outcomes and standards
  • Uses course management systems such as Instructure Canvas for the delivery and support of online, blended, and/or flipped courses
  • Evaluates faculty development needs; designs/redesigns and implements training programs and resources in alignment with goals, mission, and values of Edson College and the broader university
  • Cooperates effectively with team members internal and external to department, including but not limited to learning experience specialists, technologists, project managers, graphic designers, and academic administrators
  • Assists with the evaluation of instructional technology effectiveness; provides quality assurance review of courses; and collaborates with stakeholders to implement recommended changes to improve student learning outcomes
  • Assumes a lead role (as assigned) in the development and maintenance of faculty resources such as tutorials, reference material, design standards, content resources, templates, and tools for instructional development
  • Remains current on, identifies, evaluates, and communicates best practices, learning theories, and instructional technologies for appropriate implementation
  • Assists in developing and applying internal design standards to ensure continuity and consistency of learner experience. Periodically evaluates standards and templates for gaps and improvement potential
  • May support and mentor junior designers/instructional technology team members as directed

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. Five (5) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services. Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and pedagogical approaches, practices, and tools for diverse audiences/environments
  • Experience in using a variety of industry-leading technologies and products for development of content, presentations, web pages, web applications and tutorials
  • Experience in using learning management systems
  • Experience in troubleshooting computer and web technology issues on common platforms
  • Experience in effective organization and time-management in an environment with multiple priorities and short deadlines
  • Evidence of effective communication
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Experience in providing coaching and critical feedback
  • Ability to model effective organization and time-management in an environment with multiple priorities and short deadlines
  • Evidence of fluency with models and design principles for competency-based and/or micro-credentialed educational programs
  • Experience in implementing and supporting evidence-based assessment techniques including computer-based testing
  • Experience in using Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or similar eLearning development software to create interactive and media-rich instructional modules
  • Experience in collaborating with media and other specialists to produce high-quality media and communication artifacts, including podcasts, for diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated knowledge in applying the Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric and/or Quality Matters Continuing and Professional Education Rubric
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inclusive teaching practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital accessibility standards/practices

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse 75 percent; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 10 percent.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds 15 percent.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
