As an instructional designer, you will be responsible for designing and developing external, industry-facing training solutions to achieve ISO’s objective of providing technical training to the region’s electricity stakeholders. As the curriculum design and development expert, you will work in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) to apply innovative and creative e-learning solutions including but not limited to self-paced tutorials, webinars, and videos using a variety of technology tools. You will also support the development of instructor-led programs and materials, with emphasis on their conversion to e-learning formats.
In this role, you are responsible for the end-to-end training process of individual training projects: design, development, implementation, evaluation of instructional solutions that meet the stated needs, and the associated project management of the training solution. In addition to instructional design and development experience, demonstrated eLearning technology proficiency, strong facilitation and communication skills, problem solving, stakeholder management, as well as client focus are required.
How you will make an Impact:
- Works with subject matter experts and business partners at all levels of the organization to analyze training requests. Recommends to Participant Training Manager the proposed learning solutions designed to achieve business objectives, with a focus on e-learning delivery options for new and existing programs.
- Develops curricula and instructional materials that translate complex concepts and processes into high-quality, easy to understand, engaging learning content for multiple audiences enabling just in time access to content using a variety of delivery formats (e.g., video, self-paced, webinars, audio recordings, knowledge articles, instructor-led, and so on).
- Applies proven learning methodologies and frameworks for effective adult learning with a focus on e-learning. Define learning objectives, design instruction, and develop relevant content based on adult learning principles for the target audience. Ensures that quality standards are maintained during design, development, and revision of all courses/materials.
- Creates engaging, effective e-learning content. This includes creating new content, converting existing content into e-learning modules/microlearning segments, using authoring tools/software; building quizzes and interactivity; audio recording and editing; testing of courses prior to their release (content and technical); uploading courses into the learning management system (LMS) and website; maintenance and refreshing of content in existing curricula.
- Plans and manages multiple learning projects that follow a structured instructional system design (ISD) process. Uses project management skills to prioritize and ensure effective and timely implementation of training initiatives (e.g., defines project plan and schedule, meets deadlines, and communicates issues and risks in a timely manner). Applies and adheres to established department training standards, processes and procedures for each training assignment.
- Prepares subject matter instructors to deliver training through train-the-trainer sessions and coaching. Facilitates virtual or in-person training sessions with subject matter instructors.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in a learning area (e.g., instructional design, instructional technologies, education), communications, marketing, or technical area (e.g., engineering, economics, business). Experience and certificate work may substitute for education.
- Minimum of 3-6 years of relevant work experience applying adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to develop engaging, effective learning resources in a wide variety of formats (e.g., video, self-paced, webinars, audio recordings, knowledge articles, and so on).
- Demonstrated ability to design highly creative, quality and innovative learning solutions that educate and engage the learner. Experience incorporating multimedia elements (e.g., audio, video, and graphics) into blended learning solutions. Graphic design experience is a definite asset.
- Proven project planning and management for multiple concurrent projects and priorities; ability to meet commitments under tight deadlines.
- Ability and willingness to keep skills and knowledge current in a rapidly changing field.
- Works well independently and collaborates as part of a team including the ability to solicit, accept, and provide constructive feedback on project assignments, deliverables and process improvements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent facilitation and classroom delivery skills.
- Strong internal and external customer orientation.
