The Instructional Designer position is responsible for the development, editing and implementation of a training curriculum for the Retail Operations department. The designer will develop courses using the best delivery system such as videos, e-learning, or micro-learning based on the material and the audience. In partnership with the Retail Operations leadership team and the Training Manager, this position will assess learning needs and prioritize training needs for optimal results with the goal being to facilitate our learner in acquiring skills to perform their role effectively with a customer centric approach.
This position reports to the Manager, Operations Training Development. This position will interact with all levels of employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with subject matter experts in Retail Operations to identify target audience training needs using the ADDIE model (using surveys, focus groups and interviews).
- Utilize instructional design theory to edit and create engaging leaning activities on a digital platform with a focus on independent learning.
- Conduct pre and post instructional research and analysis on learners. Develop metrics to determine the effectiveness of the training with a goal to improve productivity and quality.
- Create unique exercises and activities to enhance the learning process, such as role assimilation, and gamification.
- Identify areas that have upstream and downstream impacts. Consolidate curriculum to meet the business needs.
- Work with Corporate HR team to support managers in the development of their team members
- Partner with the change management to execute on any change management tasks
- Partner with the Technical Writer and Compliance to ensure training documentation meets compliance standards.
- Present occasional facilitation using various forms and formats including group discussion, simulations and videos.
- Perform other duties as required.
Experience and Education Requirements
- BS, in educational technology or similar
- 2+ years of training experience
- Prior successful experience as an instructional designer, with a concentration in eLearning
- Experience in several instructional design platforms (Articulate, Captiva, iSpring, etc…)
- Prior Insurance experience is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
- Prior lesson and curriculum planning knowledge
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Highly-developed communications skills (written/verbal), ability to deliver clear and convincing presentations on training curriculum, as well as the ability to facilitate an open exchange of ideas, build coalitions and foster an atmosphere of open idea sharing
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships and the ability to model our core values: Collaborative, Authentic, Dynamic, Empowered and Inclusive
- A strong collaborator with a demonstrated ability/credibility to influence broadly and challenge conventional

- Must have the ability to understand and write effective text for a highly complex business
- Strong presentation skills
- Proficient plus with Microsoft Office Suite
- Some travel may be required (10%)
