Principal Duties:

Work proactively with the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) staff, subject
matter experts (SMEs), and other stakeholders to develop effective training. - Perform needs/gap analysis for curriculum development projects by conducting
research, interviews, surveys, and other fact-gathering methods congruent with law
enforcement best practices. - Develop instructional goals, objectives, lesson plans, activities, and assessments for
classroom-facilitated learning. - Utilize computer software programs to develop eLearning courses including storyboards,
interactions, media, scenario exercises, and assessments for online learning. - Create media assets (audio, video, graphics, photographs, and animation) to develop
classroom or online delivery course materials. - Instructor and presenter to classes and groups on areas of expertise.
Ideal Candidate Has:
- 10 years (preferred) or at least 5 years of instructional design or educational experience.
- Knowledge and/or experience in the criminal justice, behavior sciences, or equivalent.
- The ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Multitask projects through adequate time and project management to ensure the timely completion of all assigned tasks.
- Demonstrated experience researching and developing evidence-based curricula, lesson plans, online courseware, and media products utilizing instructional theories and practices.
- The ability to develop and implement engaging instructional strategies for remote learning environments with a high personal standard quality work product.
- Enthusiasm for innovative learning design and demonstrating creative problem-solving skills.

About Our Agency
The Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) is comprised of 11 divisions and bureaus that include the Utah Highway Patrol, the Division of Emergency Management, Driver License division, Statewide Information and Analysis Center (SIAC), State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), State Fire Marshal, Highway Safety Office, Communications, State Crime Lab, Bureau of Criminal Identification, and Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). The DPS dive team, aero bureau, CERT team and Public Protection Unit (PPU) also fall under the Department of Public Safety. DPS is made up of more than 1,500 state employees who are stationed across Utah.
