This position serves as the Instructional Designer in the Office for Faculty Development (OFD) which resides within the Offices for the Faculty Experience (OFE) in the Office of the Dean in the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Instructional Designer is an essential position in OFD, responsible for designing, creating, and delivering instructional materials and related digital media supporting professional development initiatives across OFD, including the Academy of Medical Educators (AME). The Instructional Designer will work with faculty, external partners, and subject matter experts, be a resource to faculty and staff, and collaborate to develop programming, materials, communications, and support faculty development.
The Instructional Designer primarily serves the Office for Faculty Development needs and collaborates and supports other offices within OFE, including the Office for Faculty Relations, the Office for Faculty Affairs, and the School of Medicine’s Faculty Work & Culture Optimization Collaborative for faculty well-being.
The Instructional Designer reports to and works closely with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development and others across the SOM to fulfill OFE/OFD’s goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Professional Development Course & Content Support (50%)
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development (and other areas of OFE) to create in-person, multimedia-based, and e-learning modules for faculty development programming.
- Create and lead sessions to provide instruction on educational technologies and course/session design to the SOM community.
- Create asynchronous training resources for the faculty development website.
- Design eLearning quizzes and meaningful course interactions to increase learning and retention.
- Develop, maintain, and update training portals, online catalogs, and learning management systems.
- Integrate emerging and innovative practices and research in education and instructional design into course development.
- Provide technical support to instructors utilizing online training platforms.
- Liaise with CU SOM Office of Information Technology and other SOM stakeholders to maximize the use of digital tools, services, spaces, and resources.
AME & Other Marketing & Communications (20%)
- Develop digital content and infographics to promote faculty development and Academy of Medical Educators (AME) events and offerings.
- Partner with AME faculty to polish workshops and talks at national venues.
- Develop and deliver other communications and marketing, as assigned.
Teaching Scholars Program (TSP) and Resident and Fellows as Educators Elective (RFEE) (10%)
- Advise TSP and RFEE Directors on opportunities to integrate instructional design and e-learning principles into current curricula.
- Lead sessions on instructional design and e-learning principles for TSP and RFEE participants.
- Collaborate with TSP and RFEE Directors to develop infographics and marketing materials for these programs.
Instructional Design Service & Consultation (10%)
- Provide support in designing and creating instructional materials for OFE/OFD, AME, RFEE, and TSP members by utilizing relevant in-person, blended, or online instruction solutions based on best practices, educational theory, and appropriate assessment methods.
- Provide guidance and support to faculty in selecting instructional strategies and technologies to enhance participant learning and meet accessibility requirements.
- Promote available instructional design services within the Academy of Medical Educators.
Professional Development Series, Communications & Events (5%)
- Support promotion of monthly and annual faculty development events through website updates, flyers and marketing materials creation, and related communications.
- Support and manage other faculty communications and marketing for OFE/OFD, as needed/assigned.
General OFD/OFE Support (5%)
- Establish and document best practices and standard operating procedures relevant to core work responsibilities.
- Participate in team meetings.
- Follow University and SOM policies, procedures, and processes.
- Complete other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, educational technology, instructional design, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Substitution: A combination of work experience in the occupational field or specialized subject area of the work assigned to the job, may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
- One (1) year of professional level experience in instruction, instructional technology, web development, multimedia development, systems management, workforce training, and/or higher education learning and development.
Senior Professional Level:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, educational technology, instructional design, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Substitution: A combination of work experience in the occupational field or specialized subject area of the work assigned to the job, may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, educational technology, instructional design, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Substitution: A combination of work experience in the occupational field or specialized subject area of the work assigned to the job may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Four (4) or more years of subject matter (expert-level) professional experience in instruction, instructional technology, web development, multimedia development, systems management, workforce training, and/or higher education learning and development.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in education, educational technology, instructional design, or related field from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard), multimedia/graphic design software, and e-learning platforms.
- Knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and content authoring tools (e.g., Photoshop, Articulate, Captivate, Present, Acrobat Pro) and webinar platform.
- Experience working with various web conferencing, presentation, distance learning, and video editing tools and software.
- Experience in web design and web management.
- Experience in communications/marketing or communications/marketing applications, strategies, or other related areas for diverse content, needs, and learners.
- Demonstrated ability to present content to individuals and large groups using a range of modalities and approaches.
- Experience in medical education, health professions education, a healthcare setting, and/or working in an academic medical environment or at a higher education institution.
- Two (2) or more years of experience managing projects in a fast-paced, professional environment.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
