    The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a full-time Instructional Designer.

    Under the direction of the Center for Teaching & Learning Instructional Design team, faculty, and other campus and System stakeholders support excellence in teaching and accessible learning pathways for faculty and students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The incumbent will consult with faculty and instructional designers, and advise on best design practices and accessibility for excellent end-user experience. The successful candidate is also responsible for co-developing and delivering technical training and tutorials to distance faculty and students in the use of supported media tools for teaching, and how these tools work best in the Learning Management System (LMS). Work results have a direct and highly visible impact on the quality of instruction and on the student experience across teaching all modalities.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop a strong working knowledge of UMPI-specifc design priorities, and how they are supported by the features of both Brightspace LMS, and other UMS-supported educational technologies.
    • Works one-on-one and in groups with faculty and staff to support the creation, revision and assessment of courses, including using Institutional design norms and research-based best practices in instructional design.
    • Provides synchronous and asynchronous LMS/instructional technology support for faculty users.
    • Collaborates with CTL and UMS System staff on various committees, and in testing and troubleshooting features and tools in various teaching and learning technologies.
    • Provide direct support and training development, and communicate to CTL and other departmental staff on support needs and trends in a timely manner.
    • Assist UMPI faculty and students with the development and delivery of campus-specific job-aides, videos and web-based resources.
    • In collaboration with CTL IDs, assist in updating and maintaining the student facing support Site (the eLearning Hub), as well the the Center for Teaching & Learning WordPress site.
    • Advocate at the Campus and System level for Universal Design for Learning, and designing for accessibility. Serve as the UMPI Instructional Design lead for Accessibility.

     

    Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the salary range is mid- to high- $40’s plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.     Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree with course work in education, instructional technology and multimedia design or related area.
    • Two years of recent experience in a setting working with various types of computer software, including MS Office and Google suite of applications.
    • Recent experience designing in a Learning Management System (LMS).
    • Ability to remain calm under pressure. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Active listening skills.
    • Ability to rapidly learn a variety of software applications and platforms, as well as how they heuristically work together to improve teaching and learning.
    • Knowledge of current in-person, hybrid and digital pedagogy as well as as basic understanding of UDL and UX design principles.
    • Ability to work with non-technical clients (both live, hybrid and from a distance) in a positive and solution-oriented manner.
    • Ability to translate a variety of content into supported multimedia formats including but not limited to: video, audio, graphics, and HTML.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a project team.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, Education or related field.
    • Previous teaching experience in higher education
    • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Instructional Design
    • Experience with administering an LMS
    • Experience working in in education or Higher Education context
    • Experience with the following platforms: Brightspace, Zoom web-conferencing, Kaltura and Adobe Creative Suite and WordPress
