Instructional designers in Learn@UW-Madison will work closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders across the institution, especially the Office of Human Resources and the Office of Compliance, to design, build, deliver, and maintain high-quality, effective online training for tens of thousands of university employees, affiliates, and volunteers.
- 40% Designs and develops engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online
- 20% Designs, develops, organizes, maintains, and consults on instructional materials, activities, curricula, and assessment resources in accordance with current pedagogical practices, cognitive/learning science, and design tools and methods
- 5% Researches, designs, and/or acquires learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
- 5% Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms
- 15% Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies
- 10% Designs, develops, or recommends multimedia learning materials. Facilitates communications with multimedia service providers to ensure instructional needs are met
- 5% Designs, develops, and delivers faculty development and engagement programs and activities
- Meet with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand training needs, goals, identify learning objectives, determine audience, gather and develop core training content, and establish delivery methods and timeframes.
- Prepare project proposals, storyboards, proofs of concept, and regular status reports in order to keep stakeholders informed of project direction and progress.
- Develop interactive and engaging online courses and modules that align with usability and accessibility best practices in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Manage the development of multimedia content (video, graphics, animation, etc.) and accompanying captions, voiceover, and language translation.
- Deploy online courses to a Learning Management Systems (LMS) and perform end-to-end testing on courses to ensure successful functionality.
- Develop job aids, quick-reference guides, and other supplemental training materials as needed.
- Develop templates and learning objects/components in order to streamline development and maintain consistency across courses.
- Receive and resolve escalated technical support questions and tickets related to non-credit training courses that reside within the LMS.
- Regularly assess effectiveness of courses, and user experience, using learning and stakeholder feedback.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with university stakeholders such as the Office of Compliance and Office of Human Resources while providing ongoing support throughout successive stages of course / program development.
- Attend professional development opportunities; apply and share acquired expertise with colleagues and campus partners.

- Proficiency using eLearning development software (examples are, but not limited to, Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate) to develop online courses and learning content guided by instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, etc.) and adult learning theories (Knowles, Kolb, Dewey, Kirkpatrick, etc.)
- Experience deploying and supporting online courseware on a Learning Management System (LMS) and working with SCORM standards
- Experience establishing professional relationships with stakeholders/clients to help them meet their training objectives while providing excellent customer service
- Experience applying project coordination strategies to meet project goals and deadlines
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in instructional design, education, instructional technology, training and development, career and technical education, or related field
- Hands-on experience developing courses in Canvas LMS
- Experience working with video and captioning to deliver learning content
- Experience using a technical support ticketing system
- Experience working collaboratively with other instructional designers

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $56,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
