1. working with faculty and staff to design and develop course curricula and instructional materials;
2. supporting the professional development of faculty, adjuncts, subject matter experts, graduate teaching assistants, professional staff, and subject matter experts through consultation and training;
The successful candidate will possess an in-depth and current understanding of instructional issues related to teaching and learning in blended and online courses, as well as experience using a wide range of hardware and software tools to develop instructional materials.
The Instructional Designer will report to the Manager of Learning and Development at CSU Online and will join a team that works collaboratively to support the teaching and learning mission of the University. This position may operate as an on-site (Fort Collins, Colorado) or a remote position.
- Either (1) a Master’s degree in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, educational technology, instructional systems, education, or a closely related field
- Or (2) a Bachelor’s degree in any field and at least five years of work experience in the field of course development by the time of hire.
- Experience developing instructional materials for learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle, and/or Canvas).
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not sponsor a visa for this position.
- Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of instructional design models and principles, educational theory, and instructional technology.
- Familiarity with processes relevant to the development of course curricula and instructional materials for credit and non-credit courses (digital badges, microlearning, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)).
- Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with video recording techniques and video editing software tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere and Encoder, Kaltura, Camtasia).
- Experience training others, especially faculty, to use online learning technologies.
- Experience coding HTML and CSS.
- Experience developing accessible, ADA-compliant materials.
- Familiarity with FERPA related to online learning technologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of the higher education environment and experience working successfully with university faculty/subject matter experts.
- Recent CSU experience or CSU Online experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as an individual contributor and member of a multiple internal and external teams and organizations
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, work independently, and meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrated experience using authoring tools such as Articulate, Storyline, and/or Captivate to create interactive learning objects (e.g., drag and drop, hot spots, click-to-reveal, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience incorporating online curriculum standards into instructional design practices (e.g., Quality Matters, Quality Scorecard)
- Demonstrated experience designing and creating interactive learning objects using elearning authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline 360, etc.)
