The Operational Readiness Implementation Division (ORI-DO) is seeking a highly skilled eLearning Specialist to directly support training and education programs within the Training & Mission Services group (ORI-1). The primary core tasks of the position will support Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) with development and implementation of training program elements and eLearning processes.
The selected candidate will report directly to the eLearning Specialist Team Lead at the ORI-1 group level. The selected individual will perform day-to-day eLearning services for the assigned customer. They will become an expert in applying the various requirements and drivers that must be adhered to. The chosen candidate will have the responsibility and accountability to execute work that supports important training deliverables while setting the standards for utmost professional behavior and integrity in the workplace at all times.
eLearning Specialist 3
- Working with customers, stakeholders and regulators to assure eLearning projects meet customer needs, regulatory drivers and contractual requirements.
- Providing guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining eLearning course files and assets.
- Researching complex training and education issues and recommending sound, practical solutions.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining compliant and high-quality eLearning for diverse audiences.
- Working within the LANL Learning Management Systems (LMS) to setup, prepare, troubleshoot, and manage LANL eLearning products.
- Performing various administrative functions in conjunction with or in support of operational program compliance, including planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of eLearning products and activities.
- Participating in knowledge preservation, capture, and transfer projects in support of learning deliverables as desired by the customer.
- Collaborating with customers and stakeholders to assure eLearning products meet customer needs, regulatory drivers, and contractual requirements.
- Assisting eLearning Specialists on the team with additional duties, as needed.
- This position will be a combination of telework and on-site. Amount of on-site work is based on customer needs as identified by your manager.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge and Expertise: Knowledge of adult learning theory in a virtual environment and performance-based eLearning techniques. Advanced knowledge of authoring tools, basic HTML and CSS code languages, graphic design abilities, UI/UX Design abilities, adult learning theory and application in a virtual environment.
Performance: Experience gathering requirements, performing analysis, developing individual eLearning products, implementing eLearning and assisting with evaluation methods. Experience utilizing a learning management system to effectively implement training programs. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a complex, fast-paced operational environment.
Accountability: Experience working with confidential or proprietary information, classified documents or sensitive information, including PII training records. Sound understanding of safety and security requirements to individual responsibility and as applicable to training activities.
Communication and Customer Service: Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written and verbal communications. Ability to transfer knowledge effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel. Proven skillset in using excellent communication to provide top-notch customer service.
Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
In addition to the qualifications previously listed:
- TSQP qualified as a Learning Specialist, or the ability to become qualified.
- Previous experience working in the Department of Energy (DOE) complex.
- Expertise in nuclear facility-related subject matter areas (e.g. radiation protection, criticality safety, nuclear material control accountability, integrated safety, conduct of operations, engineering, maintenance).
- Experience as an AP-01000 Preparer for training documents and/or familiar with formal preparation of documents and document control.
- DOE Q-Clearance and Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification highly desired.

- This position will work in both an administrative office environment, as well as a hands-on training environment with the ability to telework depending on the assigned customer’s preference. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
