Housed in the Faculty of Education, the Educational Technology Support (ETS) unit offers educational services to advance scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching, learning, curriculum and educational technology practices. The technology support services it provides include four main areas: learning design (consultations and instructional design of all online, blended and in-classroom instruction), learning technologies (support of Canvas and other technologies that are used for teaching and learning), professional development (various types of individual and group sessions to build the capacity) and innovation (MOOCs, Summer Institutes, VR, TLEF granted projects, etc.).
The Educational Technologist reports to the Manager, Learning Design, ETS, and works closely with other ETS members as a team that designs, develops, revises and supports the Faculty of Education blended and online programs and courses. The position interacts with members in PDCE and educational stakeholders including faculty, program leaders, researchers, support staff and students.
Work Performed

Advises faculty members, instructors and instructional support personnel on the selection of technologies appropriate to meet pedagogical goals;

Increases the effectiveness of the use of multimedia and media production in programs and courses;

Manages contents of the learning management systems, including searching for images for courses,
-
finding and updating links, and researching and retrieving journal articles, videos, and other materials required for online courses;

Monitors the delivery of online courses and programs, identifies technical problems with the learning management systems and other educational technologies (i.e. blogs, wikis, classroom response systems, iPeer, Turnitin, Qualtrics, Piazza, Kaltura, Zoom and other tools as appropriate), resolves and/or escalates them as appropriate;

Develops learning materials to train faculty on various educational technologies;

Conducts workshops for faculty on various educational topics and technologies;

Conducts needs assessments, develops corresponding program offerings and assists with the evaluation of teaching and learning strategies;

Assists with plans for design and development of solutions for technology integration into the curriculum;

Participates in the analysis of needs and recommendations of appropriate tools and technologies;

Produces written documentation and instructions on use of various tools and equipment;

Acquires and maintains a working knowledge of the technical architecture of eLearning applications;

Researches current technical information relating to learning technology;

Performs other related duties as required.
Errors in judgment may result in the inefficient use of resources, and may damage the image and reputation of the University, and the Educational Technology Support unit. As a service unit in the Faculty of Education, the consequence of staff error could negatively impact the reputation of the Faculty for quality and reliability and affect the enrollment of students. Difficulties in exercise of judgment, due-diligence and communication will be detrimental to the ETS unit.
Supervision Received
Works independently and collaboratively under the general direction of the Manager, Learning Design. Receives general instructions during orientation and on new projects or changes in procedures. The work is done independently, although the general product will be subject to review in terms of quality and effectiveness in meeting educational goals.

May supervise and provide technical training to student staff.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Familiarity with learning management systems and various educational technologies (i.e. blogs, wikis, classroom response systems, iPeer, Turnitin, Qualtrics, Piazza, Kaltura, Zoom, etc.) required;

Experience with using and producing media is an asset;

Strong professional communication and interpersonal skills for working with and leading workshops for faculty;
-
Excellent attention to detail;
-
Ability to adjust to change and work well under pressure independently and within a team;
-
A balance of creative, technical, analytical, and social interpersonal skills;
-
An understanding of academic culture and the nature of adult learning;
-
Familiarity with HTML and CSS;
-
Familiarity with a wide variety of applications and software including Photoshop, Camtasia, iMovie and MS Office;

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
