Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Commercial Learning & Development, the Director of Learning Operations will be responsible for building solutions and developing the roadmap for the future learning ecosystem. It will play an integral role in harnessing the use of learning technologies, measuring program impact, and ensuring streamlined learning operations that meet business needs, are cost optimized, and sustainable over the long term. It will manage, own, and solve problems, and make strategic decisions on what should be prioritized within learning operations. It will design and build operational models to enable automation and efficiency gains that contribute to learning operational excellence. This individual will provide expertise in the implementation of learning operations, technologies and lead governance around standardization and oversight to serve learning needs for the Gilead Commercial Organization.

Key Responsibilities
Operations:
The Director of Learning Operation provides thought leadership and vision in collaboration with:
  • CL&D leaders and cross functional teams to innovate and improve the existing learner experience and processes, based on analyzed data, current practice, and emerging trends.
  • Other internal teams to understand individual and overall project needs, creating a unified, seamless, and engaging learner experience.
  • Cross functional design and development teams to drive the continuous improvement of learner outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Identify areas to automate and standardize learning operational functions including registrations, communications, materials, access, assessments, matriculation, vendors, budgets, etc.
  • Communicating the vision and strategy to multiple audiences to ensure alignment.
  • Partner with internal IT and Operations, Brands, and external vendors to identify and implement tools, technologies and process enhancements that improve the engagement, efficiency and productivity of the learning team and the experience for our learners.
  • Manage the department processes and operational activities to improve efficiency and curriculum quality.
  • Measuring, monitoring, and analyzing user feedback and data to identify areas for
  • Produce timely, consistent, and accurate KPI reports for stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Establish, monitor, communicate/report and continuously improve key metrics, accountabilities, and measures of learning and development success in terms of quality, quantity and efficiency and how it translates into impact.
  • Build and manage a Measurement & Metrics Strategy, including detailed reporting and dashboards that show the learning impact. Responsibilities may include other commercial operations report and data that becomes part of an overall performance dashboard.
  • Conduct analyses to identify performance gaps and recommending training solutions that meet the business objectives.
Technology:
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to define the strategy and support the execution of learning technology products and solutions within the larger learning experience portfolio.
  • Partner with training managers to deliver innovative and effective learning resources and
  • Understanding trends and new market needs and translating those into learning technology
  • Assess best practices on learning methodology, tools, and delivery options/technologies.
  • Ensure successful implementation of all learning efforts, developing and using analytics to determine business impact.
  • Lead the holistic strategic vision and plan across all learning technology products in the learning experience portfolio.
  • Design and support the development and rollout of high impact learning solutions that focus relentlessly on helping learners to be successful.
  • Oversee learning technology platforms. Includes managing the vendor, platform upgrades and being the liaison between the end user and IT.
  • Responsibilities include interacting with commercial systems like Veeva/CRM where CL&D related functionality resides.
  • Align learning technology solutions to commercial curriculum needs and learner driven access based on foundational principals of quick, easy and timely access to data that supports building commercial capabilities.
  • Work closely with third party instructional technology vendors and partners to manage and enhance the use of systems.
  • Stay current with the latest learning technology trends and methodologies to properly manage the future technology needs.
  • Designs and develops learning solutions to support a variety of learning types, including self-paced (job aids, video, eLearning, gamified sites), in-person, blended, mobile, augmented/virtual reality.
  • Lead training on optimal use of technology and platforms for CL&D staff.
  • Ensures all learning solutions use a solid instructional design methodology, including adult learning theory, interactive activities, technology to ensure learning solutions are effective and aligned with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate across teams and end user community to ensure adoption, usability and ongoing performance support.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Understanding of learning principles/methodologies and application in a complex business environment. Includes experience using a training design/development process, i.e., ADDIE or equivalent.
  • Exceptional people management and leadership skills. Demonstrated success leading a team of learning professionals and participating on leadership team.
  • Successful experience in relationship management across a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in communicating across multiple audiences to achieve alignment and buy in.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, creating meeting schedules and budgets, producing quality products and measuring success.
  • Demonstrated success in change management, and bringing order and structure to complex
  • Proven ability to analyze data to identify trends and drive innovative process improvement.
  • Demonstrated success in budget management and a track record of strong financial acumen relating to Learning & Development programmatic spend.
  • Understanding of learning principles/methodologies and application in a complex business environment. Includes experience using a training design/development process.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and partners to develop high quality training solutions is required.
  • Advanced experience in learning design, development, delivery and measurement for adult
  • learning with experience in e learning course development is a plus.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience
OR
  • Masters’ Degree and Ten Years’ Experience
OR
  • PhD and Eight Years’ Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Advanced Degree in related field is desirable
  • Instructional Design and/or Training Professional Certification
  • Experience with digital learning and social learning platforms to drive engagement and scale (e.g. WalkMe, gamified sites, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud and Captivate, Articulate Studio, eLearning applications, iPad)
  • Experience with a variety of computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, eLearning applications,); strong graphics design skills preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and facilitate training solutions and materials to include: eLearning, Instructor Led Training and, On the Job,
  • Experience with E Authoring tools and social media to drive engagement and sustainability.
  • Previous experience with online platforms, preferably learning solutions that are scalable, effective and engaging.

 

The salary range for this position is: $199,835.00 – $258,610.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
