Our client, Virginia’s largest institution of higher education, is looking to add a Canvas Course Designer. The Canvas Course Designer is a full time, 1 year+ contracted position offering a full benefit package (to include health, dental, 401K. Under the supervision of the Director or Canvas and Educational Technology Support Services, the Canvas Course Designer is responsible for assisting in the layout and design of Canvas face to face courses and related resources.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the course development process for new organizational courses and courses that need to be revised/redesigned.
- Providing course design consultation to individual or groups of faculty
- Reviewing existing courses for quality currency and consistency and working with faculty to enhance current courses.
- Mentoring faculty as they revise/maintain existing courses
- Carefully tracking status of projects and maintaining appropriate files and records including time tracking, project comments and task completion.
- Helping to refine and improve the course design/development processes and procedures.
- Designing and producing learning materials in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, web and multimedia to support teaching, learning, and College information needs.
- Researching and making recommendations on best practices, graphical design resources and graphical technologies to support design learning.
- Facilitating courses, workshops and presentations to faculty and staff
- participating in professional development to stay ahead of current trends and practices
- participating in CETSS staff meetings and Course Design team meetings
- contributing to special projects as assigned to support the overall strategic mission of CETSS Qualifications:
KSAs/Required Qualifications
- Able to work efficiently both individually and as a member of a team
- Excellent knowledge of Canvas
- Previous experience development, design and maintenance of Canvas courses
- Highly developed communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal) with the demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Knowledge and application of best practices using technology for teaching and learning, including but not limited to, multimedia development, Canvas learning management system, and online collaborative tools.
- Ability to monitor and report on the course development process.
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply accessibility standards for online learning environments, as well as familiarity with assistive technologies used with course design, development and delivery.
- Familiarity with copyright laws and creative commons and how they pertain to courses.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
- Minimum of two years of course design experience working with faculty/instructors/subject matter experts to design and support delivery of instruction.
- In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
- Course Design experience in higher education.
- Teaching experience in higher education, preferably in of face to face & blended environments.
- Ability to use one or more eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Camtasia, Captivate, Canvas Studio, Articulate).
