Moodle LMS is one of the most popular open source learning management system in the world with more than 370 million users around the world. Flexibility of customization and adaptation to all learning requirements are one of the main reason behind its popularity. In this post we will see how you can extend Moodle Groups by using the Grouptool plugin.
The Moodle Groups allows the teachers to group course participants together based on certain defined criteria. Moodle offers different types of groups which are Visible & Separate groups. However the groups in Core Moodle doesnt allow the user to choose his preferred group. The members are either allocated manually or based on the criteria defined by the instructor.
The Grouptool Moodle plugin which is developed by Academic Moodle Cooperation extends the Moodle groups functionality. It allows the students to enrol themselves in groups with waiting lists, as well as the transfer of grades within groups.
In addition, the Grouptool plugin offers the following features:
- automatic creation of groups with simultaneous enrolment of participants
- simultaneous creation of groupings for each group created
- self-enrolment of participants in existing groups
- group grades – transfer awarded grades to other group participants
You can download the Moodle Grouptool plugin from the official plugins repository here.
