Carv Raises $10M in Seed Funding to Transform Recruitment With AI

Carv, a recruitment AI company, has recently announced a groundbreaking achievement in securing $10M in seed funding. Following the successful launch of its recruitment platform in March, this significant milestone is a testament to the industry’s recognition of its potential. With this substantial funding, the startup is poised to accelerate its growth and revolutionize the recruitment industry with the expanded capabilities of its platform.

Headquartered in Amsterdam, Carv has developed an AI platform designed to streamline recruitment processes by automating administrative tasks traditionally handled by recruiters. This customizable solution is not a replacement for recruiters, but a tool that empowers them to work more efficiently and effectively. It allows recruiters to focus on building meaningful connections with candidates and clients, enhancing their role in the recruitment process. Driven by a mission to foster synergy between recruiters and artificial intelligence, the firm is revolutionizing the way talent acquisition is approached.

Sharing about the company, Barend Raaff, Co-founder of Carv, said:

We often talk about the future of AI in recruitment on an abstract level. With Carv, we make it tangible. Enabling recruiters to delegate the tasks they shouldn’t spend time on to Carv is a first step towards a reality of integrated AI—one that delivers instant benefits and simultaneously opens the door to the fundamental rethinking of the hiring process in a later stage.

With its platform, Carv addresses one of the most pressing challenges in today’s talent acquisition space: recruitment has become synonymous with administrative work. Industry data shows that anywhere between 20% to 40% of a recruiter’s day-to-day is spent on admin tasks, an unfortunate characteristic of the job that sits at the heart of many other challenges recruiters face. With Carv, these time-consuming admin tasks can now be fully delegated to a personalized AI, freeing up recruiters to focus on what matters most; the candidates they interact with. This shift in workload distribution holds the promise of a more balanced and fulfilling work life for recruiters.

Student Financing Platform Bcas Raises $18.5M for Global Expansion

Bcas , an EdTech platform that enables students to access higher education without financial barriers, has announced that it has closed $18.5 million (€17 million) in a funding round led by MyInvestor and Actyus (Andbank Group’s venture debt fund). The European Investment Fund (EIF) has backed the firm with guarantees for its €30 million vehicle.

Founded in 2021, Bcas offers a flexible financing solution for students, enabling them to cover the cost of their education. The platform’s mission is to allow talented students who lack financial means to pursue post-graduate courses and high-quality training programmes that enhance skills highly sought after by employers (such as cybersecurity, data science, AI, and more). With this model, students only have to pay something once they secure a job.

This agreement aims to support the training of 7,000 students in high-demand skills for the job market, regardless of their socio-economic background. This guarantee pilot, part of the “InvestEU Skills and Education” action plan, aims to help students enter the job market by providing training in the most sought-after skills by employers.

Speaking on the fundraising, Bosco González del Valle, Co-founder & CEO of Bcas, said:

This is a significant milestone for our company. Establishing our first partnership with a bank provides us with direct access to funding. All the funds will be allocated to paying educational institutions and, in turn, supporting our continued growth.

With this investment round, the Madrid-based startup plans to reinforce its leading position in Spain and fuel its ambitious international expansion plans. The company’s latest funding, combining debt and equity, has raised its total to €25 million.

Javier Ausín, Co-founder and COO of Bcas, added:

Bcas has developed a ‘scoring’ system that has enabled us to finance over 1,500 students in just two years. We are already seeing our students secure better job opportunities. The EIF and Bcas share a common vision. This is undoubtedly the most significant milestone we have achieved to date.

Moodle Teachers – Check what your students are doing with Timestat Block plugin

Moodle Teachers - Check what your students are doing with Timestat Block plugin

Moodle is world’s most popular open source learning management system with more than 415 million users around the world. There are more than 2,200+ free to use Moodle plugins which allows the Administrators to customize the Moodle LMS according to their requirements. In this post we will see how you can measure the real activity done by Moodle users in your course.

The Timestat block plugin allows you to easily measure the time spent by your students in your Moodle course. The block plugin measures time only when the browser tab is active giving you pretty good reports of actual time spent by the users.

The block counts time only on the pages on which it has been added, so you need to add the block on the pages where you want to count the time. The block offers a visual time counter, visible to users with specific permissions (block/timestat:viewtimer) or to all users enrolled in the course, if enabled in the settings. Time is tracked even if the block or counter isn’t visible to a student.

Additionally, the block includes a link to a detailed report on time spent, with filters for course, activity, and user. Initially, only roles such as editing teachers, teachers, course creators, managers, and admins can access this report. The ‘block/timestat:viewreport’ capability allows extending access to other roles.

You can download the Timestat block plugin from the official plugins repository here.

UK-Based Zen Educate Raises $37M in Series B Funding Round

Zen Educate, the leading online marketplace that connects schools with the best substitute teachers and teaching assistants, has announced a significant milestone. The company has successfully raised $37 million in a Series B funding round, the largest in European educational technology in 2024.

With the successful completion of the Series B funding round, Zen Educate, headquartered in London, is poised for significant expansion. The startup plans to make strategic acquisitions in the UK and the US, bolstering its presence in both markets. Additionally, it will accelerate the development and scaling of the new school workforce management software, a suite of SaaS products designed for credentialing, compliance, and absence management.

Established in 2017 by Slava Kremerman and Oren Cohen, Zen Educate is on a mission to revolutionize the way schools find substitute teachers. The platform offers a modern, algorithm-based solution by directly connecting schools with qualified teachers. Teachers and schools can create profiles and connect based on proximity, skills, and experience. This innovative approach leads to faster, more accurate matches, reducing hiring costs for schools and optimizing resource allocation.

In February last year, Zen Educate acquired Opus Education. More recently, it acquired Aquinas Education, which was co-owned by television presenter and former footballer Jermaine Jenas.

Speaking on the fundraising, Slava Kremerman, Co-founder and CEO of Zen Educate, said:

We’ve been on a mission to solve schools’ workforce challenges. This investment brings us closer to our goal of helping the education system save over $100 million annually through our fairer, more efficient recruitment model. As we enter the next phase of our journey, we aim to reach out to more educational institutions across the UK and US.

Educators working through the Zen Educate platform have delivered over two million hours of education in the past 12 months, saving the education system over $25 million that would have been wasted on agency fees through its cost-effective approach. The firm currently operates in the UK and the US, with plans to broaden its presence across the US in the coming years. Through strategic acquisitions and platform expansion, it aims to consolidate the fragmented educational staffing market and transform the sector globally.
