    Join our Learning and Growth Experiences Team (LGET) as an Instructional Designer. Your work will be pivotal in crafting professional-level virtual, instructor-led, and eLearning experiences to meet the developmental and performance need of Department of Health (DOH) employees. Leveraging your expertise in instructional design, DEI, accessibility, UDL, educational technology, competency-based learning, and contemporary pedagogical methods, you’ll design innovative learning experiences. Your responsibilities extend to research and analysis of learning trends; assessment of organizational and learner needs; and development of learning materials using multimedia and design tools, all while ensuring tailored workplace learning experiences.
    We’re seeking a dynamic individual to champion the implementation of the ADDIE model in creating learning experiences that support employees’ achievement of core competencies and enhance knowledge and skills in equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice concepts. Your focus on equity is essential for developing sustainable, inclusive learning experiences that elevate employees’ work experiences. As a member of the LGET team, you’ll contribute to agency-wide DEI learning initiatives helping us progress toward organizational goals. This role may also involve serving as a back-up facilitator and producer for virtual, instructor-led learning experiences and collaborating closely with other members of the Office of People Services to foster a culture of continuous learning and growth.

    Responsibilities
    :
    • Develop engaging virtual and eLearning experiences for DOH employees using the ADDIE model.
    • Research and analyze learning trends to create relevant workplace course material.
    • Apply advanced knowledge of instructional design, DEI, accessibility, UDL, and education technology.
    • Utilize eLearning software like Articulate 360 and Adobe Captivate for content creation.
    • Align media and resources with performance goals and consult with DOH SMEs for curriculum development.
    • Manage design improvements for DEI curricula and learning experiences across all employee levels.
    • Design technical training, job aids, and resources for HR processes.
    • Establish and maintain accessibility standards for all learning materials.
    • Lead visual, technical, and multimedia design efforts with subject-matter experts.
    • Manage curriculum design teams for optimal employee learning.
    • Create diverse learning materials using current technologies.
    • Ensure all media meets accessibility standards and maintain program accessibility policies.
    • Develop learning assessments and program evaluations to measure against strategic goals.
    • Create and maintain feedback mechanisms for ongoing assessment and improvement.
    • Utilize collaborative software like Qualtrics for feedback and assessment data management.
    • Support learning team members during implementation and serve as a back-up facilitator or producer, as needed.
    • Participate in the Training CoP as the learning design representative.
    • Co-create and maintain guidelines for DOH instructional design practices with the Training CoP.

    Required Qualifications and Experience
    :
    To be eligible for this role, you need to meet at least one (1) of the experience and/or education criteria outlined below:
    • Option 1: Six (6) or more years of experience developing learning experiences for adults.

    • Option 2:
      An associate degree; AND four (4) or more years of experience developing learning experiences to adults.

    • Option 3:
      A bachelor’s degree from a college or university in education, psychology, information technology, visual/graphic design, communication studies, business administration, or related field; AND two (2) or more years of experience developing learning experiences for adults.

    • Option 4:
      A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in adult education and training, lifelong learning, educational technology, educational design, instructional design, or related field.

    Preferred Skills and Experience
    :
    • Experience working in or collaborating with state government.
    • Experience creating accessible eLearning in Articulate 360 or similar programs.
    • Experience and training in graphic design.
    • Experience editing audio and video resources.
    • Completion of an instructional design certification program or other certificate in eLearning and/or adult learning.
    • Certification, coursework, and/or professional development in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Certification, coursework, and/or professional development in accessibility and/or Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

    Location and Flexibility
    Our approach to work is flexible! In this telework position, you’ll primarily work remotely from your home location with an occasional on-site presence when necessary for work and/or for team building events at the DOH office in Tumwater, WA, approximately once per quarter.
    We’re extending our reach to include remote applicants from across Washington State, the Oregon/Washington border, and the Idaho/Washington border.
