Indian Government launches Skill India Digital To Bring All Skilling Initiatives On One Platform

The government has launched Skill India Digital (SID) platform to make skill development more innovative, accessible, and personalised with a focus on digital technology and Industry 4.0 skills. This new innovative digital platform is the nation’s digital public infrastructure (DPI) for skilling and education.

Skill India Digital (SID) has emerged as a pioneering initiative driven by the vision to make skill development more innovative, accessible, and personalized for youth. The platform strongly emphasizes digital technologies and Industry 4.0 skills, ultimately paving the way for a more skilled and dynamic workforce. It aims to transform talent acquisition, facilitate lifelong learning, and enable career advancement within a digital ecosystem.

Speaking on occasion, Dharmendra Pradhan said:

The consensus on India’s advocacy for global digital public infrastructure and addressing skills gaps was the centrepiece of India’s successful G20 Presidency. Taking another leap towards creating digital public infrastructure, MSDE has developed an open-source platform to address the skilling needs of India’s diverse demography. Skill India Digital is another step towards harnessing our demographic dividend and establishing India as a global skills hub.

Pradhan called the launch of the open-source platform another step by India towards creating digital public infrastructure. SID will be a comprehensive information gateway to consolidate all government skilling and entrepreneurship initiatives under one digital platform. This integrated approach is aimed at streamlining access to resources, ensuring that learners nationwide can benefit from these initiatives. It has included several features that promise to transform skill development in India. These features include:

  • Multilingual support
  • Secure access with Aadhaar-based eKYC
  • Mobile-first approach
  • Digitally verified credentials
  • Digital CVs with personalized QR codes

The platform is designed to encompass all training programmes initiated by central and state governments and numerous departments. It strives to accomplish this by creating a uniform and centralized platform for skill development activities. With this initiative, the government hopes learners will be offered enhanced accessibility, personalized learning experiences, streamlined verification processes and improved career guidance.
