    Online Learning (HOL) at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks an Instructional Designer to assist in developing design and arts-based digital learning solutions. Successful candidates will work with academic units and the University’s Learning Enterprise unit to develop innovative, digital learning courses and instructional materials. Working in collaboration with academic program leads and HOL leadership, this position is responsible for advancing academic courses as well as career-oriented training solutions that are of strategic importance to the Dean’s office and our academic schools. With guidance from HOL leadership, the successful candidate will work with faculty, program leads, internal and external staff and departments to advance state of the art learning solutions.

    The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in instructional design and learning sciences, broad knowledge of educational technology and elearning authoring, familiarity with design and arts, and a high degree of creativity and entrepreneurship.

    The candidate must have excellent collaboration skills, project coordination skills, and be a self-starter.

    Essential Duties

    • This position will assist faculty in the creative arts and design in the development of curricula and course materials that take advantage of instructional technologies and apply best practices in online teaching and learning.
    • Position will support both the development of inward facing academic, for credit, as well as outward facing career and executive training-based courses.
    • Collaboratively plan, design, develop and revise online and hybrid curriculum and course materials to meet University and department standards; consult with and train faculty in best practices and effective online course development for the creative arts including instructional design methods.
    • Develop planning documents, scripts, and multimedia materials to assist faculty with effective pedagogy and the use of online teaching and learning tools; remain current on and evaluate emerging technologies that have potential value for online teaching and learning; design, develop and implement evaluation procedures to assess effectiveness of using technologies in teaching/learning processes; collaborate with technical and media production staff on course development projects or assist with technical/media development as able.
    • Utilize web page authoring, desktop publishing and presentation software to develop custom content; provide technology support for online teaching and learning tools and services used by faculty, students, and staff; assist in the support of Canvas (LMS).

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field AND Three (3) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services. Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Demonstrated knowledge in online course production and delivery environments
    • Demonstrated knowledge of course development in standard learning management systems (Canvas and/or others)
    • Demonstrated knowledge of online instructional design theory and methods for the creative arts
    • Experience in project management of online learning courses and/or initiatives (e.g. managing time, establishing priorities, distributing responsibilities, meeting milestones and deliverables)
    • Experience in researching and resolving technology issues
    • Experience in supervising and working collaboratively with a team in a higher education environment
    • Experience in working hands-on and providing logistical support for multiple projects with various stakeholders
    • Experience in applying online pedagogy and instructional design methodologies
    • Experience in using creative and process oriented skills
    • Solutions oriented and able to work under pressure
    • Experience in being a self-starter that works well independently as well as collaboratively
    • Experience in evaluating and implementing new technologies for use in online teaching and learning
    • Experience with educational technology and applications
    • Experience with video/audio editing and/or planning for video production
    • Experience with customer service and troubleshooting customer issues
    • Experience in course content and exam development
    • Experience with, or background in the arts or design
    • Evidence of a Master’s Degree strongly preferred
    • Evidence of effective people and communication skills (interpersonal, written, spoken, presentation)
    • Ability to consult, train, and serve as a resource to faculty, institute, and academic departments
    • Able to produce, improve, and standardize course development processes
    • Create online/digital learning strategies and leverage the skills, experiences, and expertise of faculty and staff to promote student success.

    Working Environment

    • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse 75 percent; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 10 percent.
    • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
    • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds 15 percent.
    • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

    DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM, some evenings and weekends may be required.

    Flexible work options
