    Located in the Olympic College Center for Learning Innovation, the Instructional Designer will work closely with faculty, the instructional design team, and accessibility personnel to advance Olympic College’s commitment to equity and inclusion through quality course design, accessible electronic materials, and thoughtful use of instructional technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and collaboration skills; prioritize and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision; facilitate complex and sensitive conversations with diplomacy and trustworthiness; and develop creative, accessible solutions for academic instruction and online learning.

    The position reports to the Associate Dean for Learning Innovation.

     

    Essential Functions

     

    • Provide consultation on quality course design, especially for web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses to faculty and academic administrators.
    • Apply inclusive, evidence-based learning theory and best practices to course design.
    • Encourage skillful, student-centered use of the learning management system and instructional technologies; advise on the integration of a wide range of instructional technologies into course design to support student learning.
    • Stay abreast of new developments in instructional design and technologies; evaluate developments with an eye toward closing equity gaps, improving support, and leveraging efficiencies.
    • Share expertise with faculty and staff in the development of electronic materials in a variety of formats (text, image, audio, video, etc.); assist in checking materials for accessibility in compliance with state and federal laws and alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as needed.
    • Assist with the assessment of organizational, faculty, staff, and student needs and the development of materials, resources, and learning activities to meet those needs.
    • Contribute to the Center for Learning Innovation’s strategic and operational planning, development of new services, support for initiatives and events, and program assessment.
    • Collaborate with units across the college, including access services, IT, library, advising, and academic departments and divisions.
    • Monitor student, faculty, and staff support requests and address or escalate them as needed using the appropriate channel.
    • Advocate for accessible course design and electronic materials in meetings with individual faculty, academic departments, divisions, etc.
    • Stay current with accessibility and copyright law as it applies to instructional design and online learning; work proactively to prohibit infringement of applicable laws and to advise stakeholders as appropriate.
    • Document and communicate project plans and ongoing status to supervisor and key stakeholders.
    • Participate in college councils, committees, and workgroups.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Two years of teaching experience.
    • Evidence of instructional design expertise for online learning.
    • Knowledge and application of WCAG and ADA standards.
    • Instructional proficiency with Canvas and/or other major learning management systems (LMS)

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Community college teaching experience.
    • Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
    • Canvas and DesignTools Experience
    • Quality Matters Peer Reviewer Certification
    • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

    Terms of Employment

    This is a Full-time exempt position scheduled to work Monday through Friday. The salary for this position is $67,047 to $73,752 annually, which includes a generous benefits package that includes the following.
