    The Instructional Designer works closely with The George Washington University School of Nursing faculty and community to assist in developing, revising, delivering, assessing, and evaluating online courses.
    The Instructional Designer will work with individual faculty to revise existing or develop new academic offerings, create educational learning resources and teaching materials supporting online learning, and incorporate ADDIE model and Quality Matters rubric. The position may manage all aspects of a project, including coordination of resources, collaborating with Multimedia and Instructional Technology team members as appropriate, and providing regular updates to the supervisor and academic leaders. In addition, the position implements and maintains educational practices that reflect current knowledge and best practices in the field of Instructional Design, specifically as it relates to the nursing discipline. This position reports to the GWSON Assistant Dean of Online Learning and Instructional Technology.
    Additional responsibilities include:
    • Revises existing and develops new online courses and/or eLearning offerings.
    • Provides guidance and support to GWSON faculty in the development of teaching and learning strategies utilizing the latest instructional design theories.
    • Coordinates instructional development project teams to ensure project deadlines are met.
    • Maintains a high degree of knowledge in existing and emerging learning methods; is able to assess and envision how these methods can be applied to course development efforts.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to this position.
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of instructional design strategies, i.e., ADDIE, SAM.
    • Academic coursework development in Blackboard or equivalent LMS.
    • Quality Matters Applying the Rubric Certification (APPQMR), or equivalent, i.e., OSCQR.
    • Excellent verbal, teaching, communication, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrates software competence in HTML, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Google Drive, Rise360, Adobe Captivate, and Articulate Storyline.
    • Experience in working with a project management system, i.e., Smartsheet.
    • Capability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
    • A desire to continuously learn and explore emerging eLearning techniques and technologies.
    Typical Hiring Range
    $55,931.64 – $76,934.53 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
