    The Instructional Designer is primarily responsible for the design, development, implementation of faculty and staff learning and training programs across the Correctional Education Program. This role will work collaboratively with Academic Services leadership and others to assess the organization’s learning needs, helping to develop a comprehensive approach to short- and long-term initiatives with a focus on personal professional development.
    The Instructional Designer will be responsible for the communication, logistics, and delivery methods of learning and training programs and meaningful evaluation and reporting of learning development and training initiatives. Additionally, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with constituents across the institution to help determine curriculum content, and as appropriate, engage these individuals in the delivery of various learning and training programs. The Instructional Designer will implement pedagogical best practices and support educational technologies needed to effectively execute course mission and align to the Correctional Educational Program’s goals and objectives.
    This position will also oversee the adjunct faculty help desk for community support, as well as the piloting of new tools, including the analysis, application, and post-assessment of tools. The Instructional Designer works to support an environment conducive to high quality teaching and continuous quality improvement.
    • Drives instructional design process for correctional education including needs assessment, curriculum development and course design. Ensures compliance with distance learning guidelines. Works with assigned faculty developers to create and maintain correctional education courses.
    • Partners closely with academic services and operational departments to identify management employee performance gaps and identify options for addressing them through training or other related solutions. Ensures training programs support the changing needs of correctional education and address new initiatives.
    • Project manages web-based training, including approving design documents, scheduling, updating calendar(s), and handling support tickets.
    • Ensures the quality of design and varied instructional methods for classroom and technology-based training and development programs including virtual classroom learning and self-paced web-based training.
    • Ensures evaluation mechanisms are in place to measure the impact and effectiveness of training programs/materials on target audiences. Utilizes measurement tools to maintain an accurate and current record of all training received.
    • Select appropriate training methods, design, develop, evaluate and continuously update all training materials (online modules, tip sheets, eLearning scripts, job aids, assessments and surveys).
    • Build, test, and maintain a training environment as applicable.
    • Foster relationships with inter-and intra-departmental stakeholders to secure resources needed for development and obtain feedback on materials.
    • Responsible for a variety of other special assignments to support program efforts across the organization and other duties as assigned.

     

    Required Qualifications
    • Master’s Degree
    • Teaching in higher education classrooms or laboratories
    • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices and course and curriculum design
    • Demonstrated experience developing online professional learning opportunities
    • Experience developing, implementing, and assessing online professional learning programming
    • Experience working in a center for teaching and learning
    • Experience in learning outcomes assessment, course design, and curriculum development
    • Demonstrated support for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning or Discipline-based Education Research
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and ability to work effectively with diverse populations
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver at-scale faculty development
    • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communications skills
    • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as part of a dynamic team

     

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Terminal degree in education, higher education, instructional design, or other teaching and learning-related field

    • This position operates in a professional office environment
    • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines

    • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
    • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds
    • This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • From time to time working hours may be modified and exceed the standard work week
    • The position requires travel
    • This position is open to a hybrid remote work schedule with frequent visits to the Ashland University main campus
