As an Instructional Designer, you improve Johnson Controls team member effectiveness by ensuring they have the knowledge and skills and information needed to perform their roles. You will design and develop systems, process, product, and other business critical training deliverables for assigned projects.

This role may be based anywhere in North America.

How you will do it:

  • Work collaboratively throughout the design and development process with Learning Specialists, key partners, subject matter experts (SME), and members of the audience to design and develop learner-centric training solutions.
  • Create enablement solutions such as courses, assessments, job-aids, facilitator guides, and workbooks.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to support business processes and applications.
  • Leverage current & emerging learning trends and standard processes to design modern & engaging training solutions for a generation-diverse audience.
  • Design for the modern learner by using content simplification and visual design techniques to ensure training content is consumable for working memory.
  • Leverage script writing/editing, storytelling, and storyboarding/mock-up/prototyping skills to convert SME content into learner-consumable content.
  • Design modern and engaging instructor-led training experiences including presentations, handouts, facilitator guides, and train-the-trainer sessions with SMEs.
  • Incorporate mixed media, such as graphics, audio, video and animation into eLearning and instructor-led training solutions.
  • Build job-contextual practice interactions such as role plays, scenarios, or situational assessments, so your audiences can practice what they learn.
  • Demonstrate your intimate knowledge of instructional design methodologies and adult learning theory to create engaging content for adult learners (ADDIE and other ISD models, Kirkpatrick 4 levels of Evaluation, etc.)

 

What we look for:

Required

  • A master’s degree and 2-5 years of experience or a bachelor’s degree along with a strong portfolio (or pertinent industry certifications) demonstrating knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories, concepts, and methodologies.
  • A strong attention to detail, resourcefulness, and flexibility to work with remote teams in different US time zones.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Experience designing and developing eLearning and virtual instructor-led training as well as performance support materials for business process, and/or technical, systems training.
  • Experience facilitating classroom training is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Operational knowledge of MS Teams and Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as Visio
