The Instructional Designer I (IDI) is responsible for supporting the Learning and Development Department through the creation and maintenance of various learning solutions throughout the training lifecycle. In this capacity the IDI I may independently create training courses/programs or execute the creation of training solutions based on the design parameters set by Senior ID Team Members.

Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

 

The Instructional Designer I is responsible to train, develop, and administer learning content through:
1. Creation of synchronous and asynchronous course materials in various modalities not limited to eLearning, instructor-led, virtual instructor led and blended learning.
2. Following prescribe Instructional design methodologies (i.e. ADDIE and SAM) in the execution of course development projects.
3. Interacting with project stakeholders to include SMEs, sponsors, instructional staff and other collaborators in the execution of training development plans.
4. Conducting basic project management tasks to ensure course development remains on target, stakeholders are informed and involved, and resources needed for success are identified and utilized effectively.
5. Managing the development of instructional materials (eLearning, job aids, tutorials, digital interactives, user guides, audio and video materials, storyboards, knowledge checks, et.) that transform information into engaging instructional materials
6. Monitoring course satisfaction, assessments and evaluations and provides recommendations to leadership to improve course program and learning outcomes.
7. Conducting research and stays informed of emerging adult learning, course development and facilitation techniques. Applies acquired knowledge to future course development efforts.
8. Providing support for other duties as required to ensure the organizations training operations are successful.

Experience Qualifications

 

A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in training, instruction, and/or curriculum development focused on adult learners. Two (2) or more years of proven experience leveraging e-authoring software and multimedia tools in the creation of training materials.

Demonstrated experience with e-authoring software to include the following: Articulate Storyline Suite, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, Vyond and Camtasia. (Portfolio or work examples must be provided). Demonstrated experience in graphic design or image editing software and applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.  Experience using audio editing tools such as Adobe Audition. Experience with MS Office Suite.

Education Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required in the area of Education, Instructional Design, Business, Communications or related field.
In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, the following conditions will be considered:
– A total minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience similar to the minimum experience requirements will be accepted
– AND at least one (1) of the following industry level Certifications/Certificates are required:
– ATD Master Trainer
– ATD Instructional Design
– ATD E-Learning Developer
– CPLP, APLP, CTT+
– Equivalent teaching certification

Professional Certification

 

ATD Training certifications or CPLP/APLP preferred.

Drivers License Required

Yes, must have a valid California Driver’s License.

Knowledge Requirement

 

– Knowledge of the SAM and ADDIE Instructional Design Methodologies.
– Knowledge and skill in applying adult learning techniques in classroom, group facilitation and one-on-one coaching settings.
– Knowledge of proper e-learning fundamentals and course development techniques.
– Basic knowledge of the Kirkpatrick evaluation Model and course assessment techniques Familiarity with basic training principles.
– Content/Course creation (using templates and existing information).
– Knowledge on content development techniques to include identifying learning objectives, assessing learners, establishing performance outcomes, and evaluating strategies to deliver instruction including consulting with program owners and subject matter experts to identify performance gaps and learning objectives.

Skills Requirement

 

– Basic Computer Skills to include presentation building, screen capturing and document editing
– Strong Technical Writing Skills
– Clearly articulate of the English language; written, verbal, and visual
– Able to produce training that is: Motivational, Memorable, Meaningful, Measurable
– Ability to translate technical information and requirements into a format that is user friendly and easy to integrate operationally.

Working Conditions

 

Position is eligible for telecommuting/remote work model upon completing the necessary steps and receiving HR approval. The incumbent approved to telecommute may periodically be required to report to IEHP’s main campus for mandatory in-person meetings or for other business needs determined by IEHP leadership.

A reasonable salary expectation is between $61,422.40 and $78,312.00, based upon experience and internal equity.
