Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Learning Experience Designer within the User Experience & Design Strategy unit of Student and Academic Services. Student and Academic Services (SAS) has embarked on an ambitious multi-year roadmap to overhaul and improve systems, policies, and practices across the student and academic services ecosystem.
This one-year, fixed-term, hybrid (part on-campus and part remote) position will join the User Experience & Design Strategy team to provide support across SAS initiatives and deliver a consistent standard of instructional materials and training for each new system rollout and enhancement. By working across all SAS projects, this designer will be best positioned to understand the needs of the student services staff and faculty across Stanford and deliver appropriate learning to them across mediums that will enable their success.

In this role, you will:
- Assess target audience business needs to determine learning and performance support needs and tailor solutions for various use cases to support varied needs.
- Develop learning plans and as needed change management and communication plans. Ensure appropriateness, effectiveness, and success of learning programs.
- Proactively consult with subject matter experts to identify and formulate learning objectives and content.
- Draft storyboards and prototypes.
- Design, develop and deliver instructional learning course content, instructor and participant materials, and resources for staff and faculty who support student and academic services across Stanford and across a blend of learning modalities, such as online live sessions, online on-demand (recorded) learning, instructor-led, in-person learning, written online documentation, job aids and more.
- Design inclusive and accessible learning and performance support solutions. Implement, evaluate and maintain learning solutions.
- Develop and deliver Train-the-Trainer programs.
- Share best practices through cross-campus collaboration and instructional design community.
- Identify strategy for production, post-production, and delivery resources, tools, and equipment necessary for the development of learning materials.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience
- Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with business partners and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions and learning curricula.
- Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all members of a learning team, vendor partners, and business partners to create an inclusive learning environment that is service-oriented, supportive, engaging, and effective for adult and nontraditional learners.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in industry standard tools such as authoring tools, digital, graphics media, audio, animation, and video production tools to create impactful courses.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves learning retention rates.
- Experience integrating online learning courses/certification programs with one or more learning management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and individuals at any and all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated skills in project management of learning development projects involving eLearning authoring, audio, video, and text production, and post-production, including product evaluation and testing.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent organizational skills including an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities, define pitfalls, and propose and implement effective solutions, while being able to set and re-adjust often competing priorities.
- High level of energy, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.
Working Conditions:
- Able to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
- This position is preferred to be a hybrid position, requiring 2-4 days on-site. However, we will consider requests to work 100% remotely, with approval from the Vice Provost of Student Affairs.

The expected pay range for this position is $96,000 to $116,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
