    Reporting to the Manager of Patient Access Training, the Senior Training and Development Specialist focuses on Instructional Design and Epic for enterprise-wide revenue cycle. This person plays a critical role by designing, developing, and evaluating instructional material for instructor led and online training and development courses in the areas of Patient Access, insurance and Epic. They are responsible for the implementation, ongoing management and evaluation of organizational development interventions, systems, staff development and other training initiatives in support of enterprise-wide initiatives to train over 8000 to 10000 employees annually. Work requires an advanced understanding of the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), adult learning theory, and instructional design principles.

    Serves as a liaison and representative to Epic and JHM communities, work groups, and committees. Performs task analysis, long term and short-term planning, and determines training needs of end-users. Manages multiple projects through planning, scheduling, assigning, coordinating and reviewing tasks performed by assigned resources.

    The Sr. Training and Development Specialist is certified in selected Epic applications and will act as an instructional designer within Patient Access and develop department-specific training materials including job aids, instructional videos, eLearnings, and instructional games in accordance with policies and procedures. They will also be responsible for developing technical training for Epic such as eLearnings and microlearnings, as it pertains to registration and scheduling for all of the Johns Hopkins Health System.

    They will serve as an instructional designer and training lead within the Patient Access Training and Development Department, serving as a catalyst for knowledge sharing within the training team. They will stay up-to-date on trends and best practices in instructional design and learning technology. They will work to evaluate practicality and benefit of incorporating new practices into existing training courses and share findings with the Patient Access Training team. They will regularly collaborate with managerial and other essential personnel to conduct needs analysis and determine the appropriate training interventions to resolve issues, close performance gaps, and facilitate change. After interventions have been implemented, they will follow appropriate evaluation best practices to confirm the training intervention led to the desired organizational results.

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Human Resource Development, Training and Development, Instructional Design, Education, Business, Health Administration or Health Science and Policy) required. Directly related experience beyond the work experience requirement may be considered in lieu of education on a 2:1 basis

    Work Experience:

    Requires five to seven years of demonstrated adult training and development experience to include needs assessment and analysis, instructional design, training delivery, and group process.

    Licensure/Certification:

    • Certifications as required to administer and facilitate selected training programs and assessment instruments.
    • Required to complete and pass credentialing in an assigned Epic application module via the Credentialed Trainer program.
    • Required to complete and pass necessary Epic certifications within the first 90 days

    Knowledge/Skills:

    • High level of proficiency in adult education and training, and group presentation generally acquired through five to seven years’ experience. Must have experience customizing and delivering training modules in a business setting.
    • Must be familiar with different approaches to staff development and various delivery systems.
    • Work requires knowledge of curriculum development for adult learners and demonstrated proficiency in adult education and electronic/computerized training processes.
    • Working knowledge of Medical Insurance and Epic preferred
