Reporting to Sr. Director of the Online Campus, the eLearning Specialist is a full-time position that supports all aspects of the University’s online/hybrid courses and programs. This includes: designing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving assigned online/hybrid courses and programs.

Responsibilities

Work with college(s) / program(s) and faculty members to plan, assist, and conduct course-level curriculum review, development, redesign, and online/hybrid faculty curriculum and user support. Participate in campus-wide initiatives as assigned.

  1. Plan meetings with faculty members on assigned online/hybrid courses.
  2. Track course-level curriculum development, redesign, and implementation milestones for each assigned course.
  3. Work with assigned faculty members to prepare courses ready for regular quality assessment program or certification.
  4. Work with college/program/faculty members to provide recommendations for curriculum design and quality assurance (QOLT or QM) related topics.
  5. Work with assigned faculty members and proactively provide technical review to ensure course readiness, accessibility, usability, and compliance to QA/college/institution/federal/accreditation requirement.
  6. Provide online/hybrid faculty members with curriculum design support assistance during extended support hours when needed.
  7. Provide faculty members with expert-level LMS and all 3rd party tools support.

Provide suggestions and share best practices for curriculum and instructional development process, design research, technical review process with team members and campus community members.

  1. Assure accessibility of course content and provide accessibility and UDL related training and support.
  2. Provide support and act as Online Campus representative to the campus committee(s) as assigned.
  3. Facilitate both online and/or face-to-face QM related training (APPQMR, DYOC, IYOC) to faculty.
  4. Provide training/workshops to faculty about how to use various technology tools available for faculty, including adaptive learning softwares or learning content authoring applications. (e.g. CourseArc, Adobe Captivate, Articulate).
  5. Deliver specialized departmental training/workshops based on campus community needs.

Provide hands-on services to convert content and place content to appropriate learning platforms as requested/directed by the faculty members, college/program chairs, and Sr. Director of the Online Campus.

  1. Develop, design, and redesign adaptive learning modules using CourseArc, Articulate, Adobe Captivate, and/or other current instructional technologies.
  2. Work with assigned faculty members and conduct hands-on support to convert content for faculty members with their permission.
  3. Work with college/program/faculty members and place approved course configuration or alternative content format in an appropriate learning platform.

Coordinate graduate or work-study students and collaborate with necessary campus team members to get the course ready by the end of each course project cycle.

  1. Coordinate graduate or work-study students as necessary.
  2. Work with assigned faculty members and inform campus team members regarding any statuses of assigned courses and necessary technical support issues in a timely manner.

Other duties as assigned by the Sr. Dir. of the Online Campus, example including but not limited to:

  1. Create and/or support various orientation courses and manually enroll all admitted students each year if needed.
  2. Support events hosted by the Office or the University.
  3. Tasks assigned by the Sr. Director of the Online Campus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
  • General knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods.

Required Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of online course curriculum design and development.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and faculty members.
  • Knowledge of Quality of Online Learning & Teaching instrument, Quality Matters program, and other related course quality instruments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess good computer/Internet applications skills (email, word processing, Internet tools/applications, Web 2.0 tools).

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • A Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, educational technology, or equivalent preferred.
  • Working experience related to online curriculum design.
  • Working experiences using learning management system(s) (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle) and other instructional applications.
  • Teaching experience in K-12 or higher education.
  • Certified QM workshop (APPQMR/IYOC) facilitator.

Condition(s) of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment.  Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.

All background checks are conducted through the university’s third party vendor, Accurate. LiveScan is conducted through the University Police Department.

PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $5,834.00 to $7,084.00/month.
