The Over J Manager, Instructional Design is a full-time, on-site role. The manager will lead the growth and development of the externally facing Instructional Design Department and be responsible for the oversight of 5 internal direct reports and multiple external vendors/contractors. With demonstrated experience working in a consulting capacity, leading teams, championing learning, and working within a start-up, fast-paced environment the Manager, Instructional Design will act as the in-house subject matter expert and thought leader, the project manager accountable for the successful launch and completion of all client-facing Instructional Design projects & initiatives, and the chief inspiration officer for all things eLearning at Over J. In addition, the Manager, Instructional Design may function as an instructional designer on various projects to meet business goals, objectives, and deliverables, as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· The Manager, Instructional Design is the department leader for the Instructional Design Team and will have direct oversight for the following roles:

o Instructional Designer (5)

o Graphic Designer (1)

o External Contractors/Vendors (5)

Essential Functions:

1. Mission & Values

o Function as a champion and ambassador for the Over J mission & values in all actions and interactions

2. Leadership & Collaboration

o Participate as a key member of the management council to create organizational development strategies that meet and exceed market demand and client expectations

o Effectively partner with internal and external stakeholders

o Measure, monitor, and regularly report out on progress against goals and performance targets

o Actively support the company code of conduct

o Follow current company policies and procedures and help develop policies and procedures, where needed

o In partnership with direct manager, actively participate in personal professional development plan

3. Team Management Responsibilities (30%):

o Inspire, coach, set goals and accountability measures for all direct reports

o Optimize team performance by hosting monthly 1:1s with team members and aligning individual/department goals with company-level goals

o Actively strive to maintain a satisfied and engaged team by:

§ Building respectful relationships within the team (and across the entire organization)

§ Creating an inclusive team culture

§ Welcoming open dialogue from diverse perspectives

§ Problem solving with direct reports

§ Leveraging assessment data to create and develop a dream team- aligning team member’s superpowers with the work to be done

§ Analyzing feedback and launching improvement plans, as needed

o Manage full employee life cycle for the team (recruit, hire, inspire, coach, mentor, progressive discipline, and separation/termination, as needed)

4. Department Development and Innovation (30%)

o In close collaboration with direct manager and management council, evaluate current Instructional Design department workload and future business opportunities to create a department roadmap, including proposed resources, timing, budget, etc.

o Remain abreast of current industry trends & standards, learning theories, and technologies related to Adult Learning and Instructional Design to deliver best-in-class, cutting edge initiatives, solutions, and programs to meet business and client needs

o Serve as an Instructional Design and Adult Learning thought partner for internal/external stakeholders

o Develop and maintain Instructional Design department processes, templates, SOPs, and tools to ensure quality, consistency, speed, and efficiency while also maintaining an agile team to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment

o Prioritize department workload and strategically deploy team resources to meet business needs

5. Project Management and Administrative Oversight of Instructional Design Initiatives (30%)

o Ensure all Instructional Design projects meet or exceed client expectations and contractual obligations in terms of scope, deliverables, project timelines, resource allocation, costs/budget

o Lead and manage external RFI and RFP processes related to the Instructional Design function of the business

o Facilitate internal & external meetings related to project work and deliverables, identifying areas of risk/concern, documenting/assigning action items, and ensuring follow through to completion, as necessary

o Negotiate and manage all contracts and budgets for external contractors, SMEs, and/or vendors

o Coordinate technical support with vendors and IT

o Monitor and maintain the effectiveness of the content library, ensuring it is current and relevant

o Facilitate program and project level evaluations incorporating the voice of the customer (VOC) to ensure effectiveness, continuous process improvement, learning, and adaptation

6. Project-Level Instructional Designer (10%)

o Function as a project-level Instructional Designer on various projects, as needed

o Collaborate with SMEs and team to review source material, storyboards, client materials and develop best-in-class eLearning content to meet client needs

o Design performance-based, measurable assessments that align with learning objectives

7. Perform other related duties, as assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills

Education and Experience:

· REQUIRED:

o Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Online Learning, Curriculum & Instruction or related fields OR equivalent direct work experience (minimum 5 years)

o Knowledge of supervisory, leadership, and managerial best practices as well as direct experience managing a team of instructional designers (minimum 3 years)

o Demonstrated experience developing successful customer-facing eLearning content in a corporate environment (minimum 5 years)

o Demonstrated experience developing storyboards, courses, and learning journeys to meet complex learner and client needs (minimum 5 years)

o Demonstrated experience partnering with SMEs (subject matter experts) to clarify and simplify highly technical content into accessible adult learning experiences (minimum 3 years)

o Demonstrated experience employing storytelling best practices to bring technical topics to life for adult learners (minimum 3 years)

o Demonstrated experience editing and publishing SCORM packages (minimum 3 years)

o Demonstrated knowledge of LMS (learning management system) administration and configuration (minimum 3 years)

o Advanced experience with tools such as: Articulate Storyline, Camtasia Studio, Vyond, InDesign, Snagit, Blackboard, MyLearning (minimum 3 years)

o Advanced experience with common business technology, tools, and platforms, including but not limited to O365, Teams, Adobe Suite, Canva etc. (minimum 3 years)

· PREFERRED:

o Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Online Learning, Curriculum & Instruction, or related fields

o Advanced Certificate in Instructional Design (ie: IDOL Academy or others)

o Advanced Certificate in Project Management/PMP

o Experience leading and managing RFI/RFPs

o Experience working within the oil, gas, utilities industries

o Experience with “flipped classroom” and blended learning approaches

o Knowledge of video and multimedia production techniques

Physical Requirements:

· The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

· Requirement 1- Sitting or Standing:

o Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

o Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time

· Requirement 2- Carrying or Lifting:

o Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time (boxes, office supplies, teaching/facilitation materials etc.)

· Requirement 3- Environment:

o Must be comfortable working in an open-office setting with shared workstations in proximity (100% time)

o Must participate in large group gatherings with team members and clients on-site (30% time)

o Must travel to client sites to conduct business (10%)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $74,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
