We are seeking an experienced Learning Experience Designer to help our clients solve problems that make a difference in the lives of educators and students everywhere. In this role, you will be working collaboratively with your peers on a variety of interesting problems that leverage your skills and classroom experience. One week you may be authoring content that supports K-12 educator professional development, the next week, developing online project based learning materials, followed by a week of market research and instructional design.

Primary Duties

Who we hire for this role is expected to contribute to Clarity’s success through their expertise and skills in instructional design, content development, adult learning theory, and pedagogy for performing the following major job duties:

  • Writing, reviewing, revising and extending educational and instructional materials and resources designed for use by our clients and their customers (educators, education leaders, and students);
  • Producing screencasts, tables, figures, presentations, documentation, and other materials in multiple media and integrating content from others;
  • Researching and applying knowledge of technology usage in schools to make hardware and software integration suggestions for client projects;
  • Collaborating with colleagues from other departments to give feedback on instructional design, functionality, and content for a variety of projects; and,
  • Working closely within a team and goal-oriented environment, in a proactive manner, assuming such responsibilities as are necessary to get the job done (i.e., no such thing as ‘not my job’).

Requirements

You are expected to be proficient at:

  • Identifying the educational needs of others, developing formal and informal educational or training programs or classes, and teaching or instructing others;
  • Developing, editing, and/or revising instructional materials and resources for self-guided, interactive online professional development courses that accommodate different levels or types of learners, teaching strategies and delivery methods;
  • Preparing and presenting complex concepts in a clear and comprehensible manner so that others may learn and act on the information presented;
  • Building, formatting, and publishing interactive elearning content using a variety of content management and learning management systems;
  • Conducting needs assessments to develop and/or revise instructional, learning, or performance objectives for online or hybrid learning experiences;
  • Compiling and summarizing research-based best practices for instruction with a focus on digital pedagogy; and,
  • Following an established editorial direction, voice, tone, pace, pattern and style when developing content.

You are expected to have a working understanding of:

  • Principles and methods for curriculum and training design and teaching and instruction for individuals and groups;
  • Culturally responsive pedagogy, trauma-informed instruction, anti-biased and anti-racist lenses for content development;
  • Web-based technologies and their effect on the teaching and learning experience, including their capabilities and limitations;
  • Popular edtech solutions for conducting formative assessments, delivering instructional and interactive content to mobile devices, creating, curating, and sharing content, and facilitating virtual real-time collaboration; and,
  • At least one device ecosystem (e.g., Chromebooks, Microsoft Windows, Apple iOS/MacOS devices).

You are expected to have a background integrating into your instructional practice at least three (3) of the following areas:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)
  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Career Technical Education (CTE)
  • Computational Thinking
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Project-based Learning (PBL)
  • Special Education
  • Educator Professional Development
  • Digital Citizenship, Security & Privacy

You are expected to be familiar with at least two (2) of the following:

  • ISTE Standards for Students
  • ISTE Standards for Educators
  • Common Core State Standards
  • Next Generation Science Standards
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles
  • Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0

ExperienceCandidates are expected to have at least six (6) years combined experience as a K-12 classroom educator or certified instructional specialist, coach, or teacher on special assignment.

Candidates are also expected to have a proven track-record of creating content for use in professional development and instructional environments for a minimum of four (4) years. (This may overlap with other experience requirements.) Your work portfolio should have examples that illustrate your ability to perform the duties above with increasing responsibility or complexity.

Preference is given to candidates that also have experience serving at least one year as a school- or district-level administrator, professional development specialist, teacher on special assignment, or instructional technology coordinator.

Education

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required. Desired and preferred, though not required, are any combination of the following:

  • Prior graduate-level courses towards, or successful completion of, an advanced degree (master’s or doctorate) in school administration, education policy, instructional strategies, educational technology, or a closely related field;
  • Current teaching or administrator credentials;
  • Certification with: Google, Apple, Microsoft, ISTE, or UDL; or,
  • Membership in a professional organization related to your field of expertise.

Work Location (Fully Remote and/or Hybrid Option Available)

Our team is now working from wherever they’d like. Whether your primary work location is from home, at our modern and light-filled office in the central east-side of Portland, Oregon, or you’re located elsewhere in the United States, when hired we will assist you with setting up to work successfully from the location of your choice. (Since we are based on the west coast, the majority of your work hours will occur in the Pacific time zone.)

Compensation

This position is paid no less than $86,400 annually, and is adjusted upwards based on your experience and qualifications, and internal pay equity. Please note that our commitment to pay equity means our salary offer will be our best possible offer, and not negotiable so that we may maintain internal pay equity for all employees. We then evaluate your compensation no less than annually and may make adjustments based on your job performance and professional growth, market data, while preserving pay equity (as per Oregon law).
